TIM CASTAGNE: "We are leading STEYR ARMS into the future"

With a purchase agreement dated April 23, 2024, the private Czech investment group RSBC (Robert Schönfeld Business Consulting) acquired the traditional company STEYR ARMS - as reported by SPARTANAT. Tim Castagne, currently CEO of AREX, which is also part of RSBC, with over three decades of experience in the defense industry -including SIG SAUER and HECKLER & KOCH - will lead the strategic development of both companies. We wanted to know from Tim Castagne what his vision for STEYR ARMS is.

SPARTANAT: Mr. Castagne, with the acquisition by RSBC, some say that STEYR ARMS has become a Czech company. What will change?

Tim Castagne: STEYR ARMS remains an Austrian traditional company that I want to lead into the future together with AREX under the secure umbrella of RSBC. Both companies together are a robust platform not only to continue being a reliable partner to domestic armed forces - as has been the case until now - but also to grow in these times. This includes strengthening our presence in markets outside of Europe - particularly in the USA - where we are already well positioned.

SPARTANAT: STEYR ARMS manufactures a world-renowned weapon: the AUG. The trend seems to be moving away from Bullpup. What does the future hold?

Tim Castagne: STEYR ARMS has a range of world-class products, both for law enforcement and hunting sectors. The company is very streamlined, we will expand production capacities and strengthen our team by hiring new employees. Oliver Bauer remains CEO of STEYR and reports to me. We will revise the AUG and overall round out our company environment towards a systems approach, which includes optics and other accessories as well.

SPARTANAT: What is the vision for STEYR ARMS?

Tim Castagne: We want to expand the presence in Europe and continue working with the excellent quality of STEYR ARMS. In collaboration with AREX, which has a different range and full order books, also because we work 70 percent for other manufacturers, we want to be good partners for the challenges of the future.
