The Thar carries the special forces

Flensburg Technology Systems (FTS) has unveiled the first prototype of the new lightweight, air-deployable tactical and combat vehicle, the Tahr, for the Special Forces Command (KSK) in Altensteig-Wart, Baden-Württemberg. The vehicle is based on the Israeli ZD platform from IAI/ELTA Systems. FTS is a joint venture between Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft and ELTA Systems, founded in 2023.

In 2025, the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology, and Use of the German Armed Forces (BAAINBw) awarded FTS a contract to deliver up to 200 Tahr vehicles. Initially, 40 operational vehicles and 14 support vehicles were ordered. The first vehicles are scheduled to be delivered starting in early 2027, with full delivery of the 54 vehicles planned by the end of 2028. The first pre-production vehicle was unveiled earlier than planned.

The highly mobile and off-road capable Tahr is specifically tailored to the KSK’s requirements. Its open design provides a clear view of the surroundings and allows for the integration of various weapon systems. Two vehicles can be transported simultaneously in a CH-47F Chinook helicopter. After landing, the Tahr is designed to be quickly operational, enabling the KSK to conduct worldwide operations under a variety of conditions.

The name “Tahr” is derived from a species of goat common in mountainous regions and symbolizes off-road capability and agility. ALL INFORMATION on the Tahr vehicle family.
