The Tactical Way of Lifestyle - Teil 1

10/01/2013By Redaktion

Wherever you look, you always see "tactical Lifestyle" in everyday life. But what does "tactical" actually mean? Since anyone can use the term - it is not standardized or otherwise protected - and it sells well, there is more and more "tactical" gear, whether it is cooking aprons with MOLLE or toilet paper with "tactical" print. Or simply Magpul iPhone case, TAD Gear pants, and a tactical pocket knife, here the Gerber Combat Folder Mini (shown above).

Whatever YOU understand by it, here in the article, "tactical" first refers to something in the direction of "originally intended for the military sector." Nowadays, the boundaries are becoming more and more blurred, with more and more military equipment finding its way into the civilian sector and vice versa (see Mechanix gloves, for example).

Tactical Gear_1Whether on hiking trails, at the airport, on the train, or during the weekend city stroll, you often come across "tactical backpacks," equipment, or military headgear or clothing in everyday life. This could be the combat backpack of the Bundeswehr, which is already widespread (or clones), or a MOLLE-equipped 3-Day-Pack being carried to university. But also the Leo Köhler pants, which become everyday pants, or combat boots worn for an evening out. Likewise, the "tactical" softshell jacket or even the "combat knife" for peeling apples. But also in the trekking community, many "tactical" items are becoming more popular.

But why is that? Is it because of the outstanding quality of the items? Are they simply very functional? Or do the wearers have a small latent Spec-Ops within them? And how suitable are these items actually? Many questions, some of which remain unanswered (and have to), but one thing in advance:

These items are not unsuitable, but also not unconditionally suitable (otherwise there would be no civilian suppliers such as VauDe, Fjallraven, the North Face, Mammut, outdoor research, Qenox, etc.)

Tactical Gear_3First of all, it must be said that it is certainly not the price that speaks for or against tactical equipment. Quality costs. And this is the case in both areas, although there are also overpriced goods and hyped manufacturers in both areas. There are also small price/performance winners. (Compare Be-X - logo on Softshell Parka above - with Arc'teryx, for example)

Since the field is very wide-ranging, there is first a breakdown into:

- Clothing

- Bags/Backpacks

- Miscellaneous/Conclusion
