The situation 1628 – September 5, 2026

On September 5, the US delegation arrived in Moscow as Ukraine and Russia agreed to a temporary halt of long-range strikes for three days. Despite this, Putin rejected a broader ceasefire proposal. That night, Russian forces launched ballistic missiles and drones against Ukraine, with no advancements reported from either side.

  1. The US delegation arrived in Moscow City on September 5 as Ukraine and Russia reached a temporary agreement to halt long-range strikes against Kyiv and Moscow cities for three days to facilitate the delegation’s travel.
  2. Putin rejected a broader frontline ceasefire proposed by Ukraine during the US delegation’s visit.
  3. Russian officials continue discussing efforts to strengthen Russian air defense systems in order to defend against Ukraine’s long-range strikes.
  4. Neither Russian nor Ukrainian forces advanced on September 5.
  5. Russian forces launched an unspecified number of Iskander-M or KN-23 ballistic missiles and 167 drones against Ukraine overnight.
