The situation 1402 – January 22, 2026

On January 22, Ukrainian and US officials met in Switzerland amid reports of possible US, Ukrainian, and Russian meetings in the UAE. The Russian military is adapting to positional warfare with new vehicles and AI systems. Ukrainian Defense Minister Fedorov dismissed five deputy ministers, while both Ukrainian and Russian forces made recent territorial advances.

  9. Ukrainian forces recently advanced in the Kostyantynivka-Druzhkivka tactical area and in eastern Zaporizhia Oblast. Russian forces recently advanced near Slovyansk, in the Dobropillya tactical area, and near Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka.
