Russian for Beginners: The new SPARTANAT Red Book “I Live, I Fight, I Win! Rules for Life in War” offers advice from veterans to Russian soldiers heading to Ukraine to fight.

War has been raging in Ukraine since the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022. The invaders have not yet been able to win the conflict; Ukraine is fighting resolutely for its freedom. “I Live, I Fight, I Win” is a Russian booklet for soldiers going to war, published by a veterans’ association. They want to share their experiences with young soldiers heading into battle.

  • Why Russia is fighting
  • What soldiers should bring when they are drafted
  • How to behave in the combat zone
  • How to protect yourself from artillery and snipers
  • How important positions are and why they must be held
  • Cooking and providing for oneself
  • Why cell phones are dangerous

This small handbook is a unique document that helps us understand how Russians think. It explains their view of the meaning of war, but above all, it offers many practical tips on how a Russian soldier survives on the front lines. The whole thing provides an intimate glimpse into today’s Russian army.

“If the brochure falls into the enemy’s hands…—let them read it.”

“I Live, I Fight, I Win! Rules for Life in War” (german language) by the Russian Association of Afghanistan Veterans, SPARTANAT Red Book 14, pocket-sized paperback, 120 pages.
