The U.S. Army is launching the "SixPAC," a new ammunition box made of polymer and steel, to replace the traditional M2A2 metal box. This change coincides with the adoption of the new 6.8 x 51 caliber for the NGSW program, marking the first major redesign of small-caliber ammunition packaging since World War II.

This is also because the U.S. Army is adopting a new caliber: 6.8 x 51 for the NGSW program. This is no small step: after all, it’s the first comprehensive redesign of small-caliber ammunition packaging since World War II.
