Lithuania joins five other NATO Allies in a joint procurement to acquire 100 Swedish CV90 MkIV infantry fighting vehicles. Today the decision was approved by the State Defence Council with a particular focus on commitment to production of technical components and CV90 MkIV maintenance service here in Lithuania to be included in subsequent acquisition contracts.
Lithuania signed the Statement of Intent on CV90 procurement with other five NATO Allies back in June. The signature was followed by a technical agreement the six members of the Nordic CV90 MkIV Infantry Fighting Vehicle acquisition programme entered in Helsinki in late November marking a milestone in a multinational acquisition conducted by Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia and the Netherlands.
The technical agreement provided concrete guidelines on collaboration principles, technical parameters and agreed Action Plan to be implemented ahead of signature of the main contract planned in early 2026. The CV90 are planned to be delivered to Lithuania and other programme participants starting 2028.
Reliability of supply commitments and implementation of industrial cooperation will be the key factors in Lithuania’s further multinational cooperation. The expectations for results, expeditions response to Lithuania’s requirements and reliable deliver stand high in the strategic programme.
CV90 MkIV is the state of the art configuration of the infantry fighting vehicle produced by Sweden’s BAE Systems Hägglunds. It is safer for the crew, has more advanced control and armaments and is suitable for integration with different national technologies.
The project participants are thus able not just to modernize national armed forces but also to strengthen interoperability and industrial cooperation while enhancing defensive capacity of the Northern European region.
