Location detection is crucial on the battlefield to maintain a tactical advantage. The increasing number of unmanned aerial systems (UAVs), especially micro-drones, is significantly shifting the balance of power on the battlefield. As a reference in the field of ground surveillance radars, Thales introduces its latest innovation: The GO20 MM Radar. With the unique combination of ground and low-altitude flight surveillance within a single surveillance device, the radar provides exceptionally early drone detection and automatic classification. And it can do more on the battlefield: From drones and helicopters in the lower airspace to insurgent foot troops or armed vehicles - all threats are simultaneously detected.
By covering the complete spectrum of threats in deployment, the GO20 MM delivers seamless 360° 3D coverage for a variety of threats. The radar captures a large area in 3D with short update times, enabling rapid detection and automatic classification of long-range drones, especially when they have not yet been classified as a threat. This creates additional crucial seconds for C-UAV measures.
Through a simple and clear HMI Venus interface, operators can automatically and easily detect a threat, gaining valuable time to decide whether and what counter-strategies should be employed. In complex scenarios such as asymmetric conflicts or high-intensity combat, automatic and rapid classification for swift situational awareness provides a tactical advantage.
Thanks to its compact size and modular construction, the GO20 MM is easy to transport and deployable. Within five minutes, two soldiers can set up the radar and quickly relocate it for a new mission, whether on a mast or for off-vehicle operations.
With its 6-pack battery, the GO20 MM provides mission and special forces with hours of seamless situational awareness and a high level of protection. By moving away from the generator option, Thales has ensured that the GO20 MM can be operated silently and guarantees mission success through its high transportability.
"With more than 50 years of experience in radar technology and thousands of ground surveillance radars deployed worldwide, Thales continues to invest in providing tactical advantages to operational forces. Building on the compelling track record of all ground-based radars within the Ground Alerter and Ground Observer portfolios, the latest addition to the product family introduces a new dimension of early drone detection and provides excellent support for operational forces to maintain supremacy on the battlefield," said Maja Velimirovic, Director Land and Air Systems Germany.
