NEXTORCH has launched the flat flashlight TA70, designed for portability and compactness. It features a tactical detachable grip, a two-stage electronic switch, and Ultra Thermal Buffer Technology. The flashlight is built from aircraft-grade aluminum, has an IP67 waterproof rating, and offers multiple operational modes with intuitive user controls.
Now NEXTORCH has finally launched its own flat flashlight. It seems that by now, every flashlight manufacturer has developed its own genre. Flashlights with a flat and slim EDC design are becoming increasingly popular due to their portability, compactness, and comfort factor. With the TA70, NEXTORCH has introduced a new flashlight featuring a tactical detachable grip and two-stage switch. It comes equipped with the new Ultra Thermal Buffer Technology (UTB). The team at TripleAction.de provided us with a sample, which we would now like to present to you.

Included in the package are the NEXTORCH TA70 Ultra-Slim Tactical EDC Flashlight with attached stainless steel clip, the USB-A-to-C charging cable, wrist strap, and user manual.

The design of the TA70 closely resembles most other flat EDC lights on the market. After all, you can’t reinvent the wheel.

The flashlight measures 121 mm × 35 mm × 18.7 mm and weighs 124 g. It’s made of aircraft-grade aluminum and has an IP67 waterproof rating. The build quality is good. Power is supplied by a built-in 1400 mAh battery.

However, there are two significant deviations worth taking a closer look at — the unique switch and the tactical ring.

The switch of the TA70 is a tail switch that turns the light on and off. The electronic two-stage switch functions similarly to a mechanical forward-click and reverse-click switch. For more details, see the “User Interface” section.

The switch can be flipped up to reveal the USB-C port. It’s also protected from lateral movement.
At first glance, the user interface appears unusual, but it impresses with its thoughtful design, allowing for intuitive operation. The selector switch allows the user to choose between three mode groups.

When the switch is pressed, the battery indicator LED briefly activates.

Lock
As the name suggests, the rotary switch in this position locks all other buttons. When the switch is pressed, the battery indicator LED briefly lights up.

Duty
Momentary on: Half-press to activate the light until released. The device always starts in low mode but cycles to medium and then high with subsequent presses. This allows quick access to the desired mode.
Constant on: A full press turns the light on continuously until pressed again to turn it off. It always starts in low mode, but modes (low–medium–high) can be cycled with half presses while on.
Turbo/Strobe: Turbo and strobe are not accessible in Duty mode.
Tac
Half-press: momentary Turbo. The device turns off when pressure is released. No constant Turbo mode.
Full-press: momentary Strobe. The device turns off when contact is released. No constant Strobe mode.

Mode | Output (lumens) | Runtime (hours) |
Tactical Momentary | 3500 |
|
High | 1300 | 2 |
Medium | 300 | 3 |
Low | 28 | 30 |

The TA70 flashlight is equipped with flat 3535 LEDs from Sanan Optoelectronics. The emitter is compact and dome-less. Noteworthy is NEXTORCH’s use of very small reflectors. Technically, it’s a triple-emitter flashlight. The manufacturer specifies beam distances as follows: 220 m, 135 m, 65 m, and 20 m.

The hotspot is wide and flat, offering excellent clarity and purity.

The bezel is fitted with glass breaker balls and has a slightly contoured shape.

The NEXTORCH TA70 Ultra-Slim Tactical EDC Flashlight comes with a built-in 1400 mAh LiPo battery that cannot be replaced. Most flat EDC flashlights use integrated batteries.

Charging is done via a USB-C port under the tail switch. The switch flips upward to expose the port. It’s waterproof, so the flashlight maintains its IP67 rating even when the port is open. Charging takes a little over 2 hours, during which the TA70 cannot be used. There’s no power bank function, which is expected for such a small battery.

The battery indicator is a single LED located on the tail switch.

The indicator light is hard to see while charging if the switch is flipped up. Here’s what it means:
Status | Color/Blink Pattern | Meaning |
Charging | Red | charging |
Charging | Blue | fully charged |
Not connected | Blue, steady | 75–100 percent |
| Blue, blinking | 50–75 percent |
| Red, steady | 25–50 percent |
| Red, blinking | 0–25 percent |

The NEXTORCH TA70 Ultra-Slim Tactical EDC Flashlight comes with a tactical grip ring. The tactical ring is somewhat similar to the Thyrm Switchback used for EDC lights.

Rings in the Switchback style are considered practical and useful, and this one offers the same advantages as a classic Switchback ring. When not needed, it can be removed. It’s attached to the flashlight body with a Torx screw.

The ring allows for quick and secure grip positioning.

The TA70 can also be clipped and carried in your pocket with the ring attached, which is especially convenient when reinserting it.

Additionally, a repositionable pocket clip is included. The clip can be mounted on either side of the flashlight body.

The clip allows for relatively deep pocket carry.

A lanyard is included in the package. The only attachment point for it is the pocket clip.

The flashlight is flat enough to fit most pistol magazine or multitool pouches, such as the Pistolance by TIGER TAILOR. NEXTORCH also offers a V18 holster for the TA70, compatible with belts and MOLLE/PALS gear.

The flat flashlight fits nicely in the hand and is easy to operate even with gloves.

Flashlight handling techniques are an essential skill for self-defense. The flat shape and tactical ring make the TA70 particularly suitable for the Harris flashlight technique. The Rogers/Surefire technique is less compatible and not recommended.
The TA70 by NEXTORCH is a well-designed flashlight. Features of this triple-emitter light include a selector switch for “Lockout,” “Duty,” and “Tac” modes, an electronic switch with momentary function operated by a lever that also covers the internal USB-C port, as well as a removable tactical ring and clip. The light offers many advantages: it’s sealed, the battery is warranted, and there’s no memory effect. It always starts on low, with Turbo and Strobe available only momentarily. The switch requires finesse, and the indicator LED is hard to see — but these are minor issues. The clips and tactical rings from NEXTORCH are always excellent — both are superb on the NEXTORCH TA70 Ultra-Slim Tactical EDC Flashlight.
The TA70 from NEXTORCH is available directly from NEXTORCH GERMANY or from dealers such as TRIPLE ACTION, which carry the brand, starting at EUR 139.
