Tactical Tip: SEAL Knot 4 - Sheet Bend

... or Becket Bend in English is a knot that is very useful for connecting two ropes with different diameters. It can also be used to join ropes or cords of the same diameter. In some applications, this knot is more stable than the square knot, and it can also be secured with two overhand knots at the ends. SEALs use it to tie igniter cords together and of course to connect two ropes. We found this knot very useful for hanging a hammock. Here is how to tie it:

Create a loop, known as a bight, in the thicker rope.

Then pass the thinner rope from behind through this loop, down around the rope, and back up behind the thick rope.

Now bring it forward again and pass it through the loop created by the thin rope.

Tighten the knot and you're done.
