Rheinmetall has been awarded a contract by the Free State of Saxony for the delivery of two protected special vehicles Survivor R. The vehicles are part of the comprehensive anti-terror package of the state, for which 15 million EUR has been allocated. They will be delivered in 2017 and will be available to the special units of the Saxon police. The order value is in the low single-digit million EUR range.
The Survivor R is based on a powerful 4x4 truck chassis from MAN and a security cell made of armored steel. This high-mobility vehicle, capable of speeds over 100 km/h, combines automotive mass production technology with cutting-edge protection technology from Rheinmetall.
The armored monocoque can be individually and discreetly adapted to changing threat situations with adaptive protection elements, and comes standard with a protective ventilation system against nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare agents. The interior is bright and ergonomically designed, providing sufficient space for a crew of up to ten persons with personal equipment, as well as extensive radio and command equipment. The consistent use of civilian-commercial and military series components enables an affordable vehicle price. This makes the Survivor R a cost-effective, easy-to-maintain vehicle platform with low life cycle costs and high operational readiness.
The strategically significant order confirms Rheinmetall's position as a major supplier in the field of Public Security and represents the company's first sales success in the area of modern protected police vehicles. The Survivor R from Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) stands for the themes of security and mobility that the high-technology company Rheinmetall is dedicated to. Developed in cooperation with the specialized vehicle manufacturer Achleitner, the Survivor R is ideally suited as a protected special vehicle for police forces.
