Assault rifle Bundeswehr: Steyr ARMS as an interim solution?

Hey, Bundeswehr: some time ago we reported on the plans for Steyr and Wilcox to upgrade the G36 – HERE is our report on that. Now Steyr has presented information on another G36 upgrade project, the G62. In this project, the G36 casing is replaced with a metal one, which is supposed to solve some of the (alleged) problems.

Furthermore, it is also possible to add a new mounting rail, a new barrel, and a Magwell compatible with STANAG magazines. The components of this upgrade kit (casing, barrel, and magazine well) can be exchanged independently of each other without modifications to the existing G36.

A little tip from the Austrians to the neighboring industrial nation: Looks quite nice and maybe this could be a useful and relatively inexpensive way to extend the service life of the G36 in the Bundeswehr, especially since it will take even longer if you can't get things in line with the other two bidders...
