Assault rifle Bundeswehr: Expert opinion is here
12/18/2020By SPARTANAT crew

With the press release from October 26, 2020, the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) informed that patent attorney opinions have been commissioned to assess possible patent infringements in connection with the project "System Sturmgewehr der Bundeswehr - Basic Weapon with Accessories". These opinions are now available to the contracting authority.

The opinions correspond to the assessment of the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw). The company in question - C.G. Haenel - is given the opportunity to comment on the results of the patent assessments by mid-January.

The initially unsuccessful bidder Heckler & Koch had filed a lawsuit, among other things, because the Thuringian manufacturer allegedly infringed HK patents. Specifically, it concerns the holes from which water that has entered can escape, which improves the "Over The Beach capability", i.e., the shooting readiness after surfacing from the water. There were also other complaints about the tender process. We find the result of the opinion particularly exciting because the MK556 offered by C.G Haenel does not have such holes.
