Steyr's new AR15
The bullpup era is waning as AR15 systems gain traction, with Steyr-Mannlicher introducing the STM556. Despite their success with the AUG, Steyr has yet to fully realize the potential of their bullpup design. The STM556 was initially intended for the French army, but lost out to the HK416. The world of bullpups is coming to an end, while that of AR15 systems is growing. And so there is now also an AR15 system from Steyr-Mannlicher, who have one of the world's best bullpups with the AUG, which still has potential for improvement, but Steyr has not capitalized on it much. The STM556 has been seen at several trade shows, allegedly it was originally supposed to participate in the tender for the new French army weapon, which has now been won by the HK416.
