The assault rifle G36, manufactured by Heckler and Koch (HK) in Germany, has sometimes overheated when used in warm climates. Both the German and Spanish governments have made substantial investments in the use of these G36 rifles. Soldiers have developed muscle memory when using the G36 during training and in conflicts, especially in Afghanistan.
The HK G36 rifles suffered barrel failures with excessive firing. Additionally, the G36 rifles lacked an effective optical system and suitable space for mounting aiming lasers or lighting systems. Steyr developed a modification kit for the HK G36, which eliminates the overheating problem and significantly improves the rifle's accuracy and reliability. The Steyr G36 MOD-Kit can be easily installed on the rifle.
Steyr also worked closely with Wilcox to develop a Fusion System for the HK G36, transforming the old forend into a lightweight modular rifle forend that can be used with a variety of lasers, a Surefire weapon light, and a reflex sight. The reflex sight is designed to assist soldiers in shooting at long distances when used with a folding 3x magnifier. Additionally, the Fusion system features a shot counter that can be read through the encrypted mobile phone using the Blueforce -BTAC system.
