The Steyr STM 556, showcased at the DSEI arms fair, is gaining attention in the weapons market due to its quick barrel change feature and ability to operate without lubrication. This AR15 system offers a competitive edge for tenders seeking non-bullpup solutions.
The Steyr STM 556 has recently reappeared in the public reporting. On the one hand at Soldier Systems, on the other hand in the newspaper Kurier. The weapon was presented at the DSEI arms fair in London. Steyr thus has the opportunity to participate in tenders that are moving towards AR15 systems and do not want a bullpup solution.
In addition to the quick barrel change - removed from the top, as with the AUG/Stg77 - it is particularly advertised that the weapon should be able to do without lubrication, e.g. with gun oil, which would be an advantage especially in sandy environments. The four bolts directly under the mounting rail (see cover picture at the very top) are intended to provide corresponding guidance in the housing. The final version should be supplied with its own magazine and push stock (see below).
