SPECIAL REVIEW 1: Oaklander "Office Carrier 2000" - sensible protection or waste paper?

The "Office Plate Carrier 2000" is a humorous yet intriguing experiment testing the protection offered by everyday objects against weapons like combat knives and tomahawks. While not a replacement for professional gear, the results are surprising and worth a read.

12/14/2020  By Redaktion

At the beginning, the question was which everyday objects offer a certain degree of protection against weapons - that's how the "Office Plate Carrier 2000" was born.

Office-ready: the Office Carrier 2000. This man can be placed at the copier at any time.

Above you can see the real Oaklander: This "plate carrier" consisting of front and back pieces is made up of two standard packs of copy paper (80g/m²) with 500 sheets each (see figure 1). Found in every decent office. Add a roll of duct tape and a few minutes, and you have a minimalist protective gear, that's the basic idea. But is that nonsense? Or does it make sense? The Oaklander tried it out.

In the first of two series, the "Office 2000" had to be tested for its resistance and protection performance against impact and stabbing weapons.

Setup: The test subject, the mannequin "Günni," volunteered for the test. Günni wears the "Office Carrier" like a regular plate carrier on the upper body.

In this series, the "Office Carrier 2000" was tested for resistance and protective performance against a combat knife, as well as a tomahawk.

Knife strike - Günni didn't see that coming! Did the carrier hold up? Or did the knife penetrate? But that's not all...

...the tomahawk also came into play, as previously announced. Oh-oh, could the carrier provide Günni with sufficient protection this time?

In the evaluation, Professor Schnüffelschnauze kindly participated.

He believes that the "Office 2000" was able to withstand both the initial hits by the knife and the tomahawk without any issues.

For the second part of the series, we had to find a new volunteer. Then it's time for the shooting in the next few days...

Editorial Note SPARTANAT: This is, of course, not a scientific test, but still an interesting experiment. Even simple items like a pack of copy paper can offer protection against attacks with stabbing weapons. Better than nothing is the motto in times of need. And for self-protection, anything goes... Of course, it doesn't replace a professional plate carrier or stab protection. It also looks funny to run around with copy paper in front of your chest and behind your back.

Special thanks to Oaklander. And Günnie. And of course, Professor Schnüffelschnauze.

And as always, remember: DEAR CHILDREN, PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!
