Rheinmetall is building a new plant in Szeged, Hungary, expanding its presence in the EU and NATO partner country.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on March 26, 2024, with prominent participation. Hungarian Minister of Defense Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, the Mayor of Szeged, Dr. László Botka, Dr. Judit Fendler, Chancellor of the University of Szeged, Prof. Dr. Gábor Szabó, Managing Director of the ELI-ALPS Research Institute, Hungarian Parliament Member Milhálffy Béla, and numerous other high-ranking representatives from politics, authorities, and industry attended the invitation of Christoph Müller, CEO of Rheinmetall Division Power Systems.

The new plant is Rheinmetall's first major hybrid location where the company's civil business and defense activities are combined under one roof. The site, scheduled to start operating in August 2025, belongs to Rheinmetall's Power Systems division.
On an area of 85,000 square meters, a plant with a floor space of 15,000 square meters will be built in an initial industrialization step. Up to 300 highly qualified jobs will be created. The total investment volume amounts to 63 million euros.
At the Rheinmetall Szeged site, products will mainly be manufactured for the Automotive sector of the company, including electric components such as nanostructure capacitors, as well as products for the use of hydrogen in mobility and energy generation. In addition, products for the military business of Rheinmetall's Electronic Solutions division will be manufactured on approximately ten percent of the production area.
"We are pleased to further expand our presence in Hungary, one of our home markets," said Christoph Müller. "Szeged, the 'City of the Sun,' will be the fourth Rheinmetall site in Hungary after Budapest, Zalaegerszeg, and Várpalota. We are grateful and proud of the trust that the Hungarian government places in us as a partner in the civil and defense industry."
