The Baofeng UV-5R is one of the most widely used radios. But it has its drawbacks, two big ones being the unprotected transmit buttons and the exposed volume knob, which require a button guard. Why is this bad?
If you put the UV-5R in a bag, it may happen that the transmit button is pressed unknowingly. This blocks the channel and all others in the team hear you panting as you haul yourself up the hill.
The volume knob has a similar problem. It can happen that you adjust the volume while walking. Either too loud or too soft. Both are not good. If it's too soft or even turned off, it can of course happen that you miss an important radio message.
To prevent these problems with the Baofeng UV-5R, we have the button guard for you. This 3D-printed part simply attaches with the screws for the belt clip and no modifications are necessary on the device. Even with the button guard, you can still adjust the volume flawlessly and press the PTT button. But now nothing can get misaligned, the radio works perfectly. A sustainable improvement for the device and operator.
