Skyranger against Drones

The Dutch Ministry of Defense is procuring new air defense systems. The contract for these so-called Skyranger systems was signed yesterday in Soesterberg. This acquisition greatly strengthens the Netherlands' defense capabilities against drone attacks. The contract covers the delivery of Skyranger30 weapon platforms, Skyranger30 static systems, and training simulators. The vehicle base at the top of the image is FFG ACVS G5.

The Skyranger system is designed to quickly and effectively neutralize drones weighing up to 600 kilograms at very short ranges (up to 5 kilometers). These systems complement existing air defense systems known as medium- and short-range air defense. They not only protect combat units, but also serve to secure important facilities and areas, such as the port of Rotterdam and military sites.

The contract was signed with RHEINMETALL Switzerland, which will build the first three prototypes. RHEINMETALL Netherlands in Ede will then play an important role in the production and assembly of the remaining systems. The last Skyrangers are to be delivered to the army by 2029 at the latest. This is a remarkable achievement for a project of this magnitude.
