SIG SAUER has submitted candidates for the US Army's Next Generation Squad Weapons Program, successors to the M4 and M249. Testing can now begin with new rifles featuring a 6.8mm cartridge to replace the 5.56 NATO.
The time has come, SIG SAUER has submitted their candidates for the Next Generation Squad Weapons Program of the US Army. These are the successors to the M4 and the light machine gun M249. Now the US Army can begin testing.
The special feature of the new rifles, which are currently only named NGSW-AR lightweight machine gun and NGSW-R rifle, is the new cartridge. This 6.8mm cartridge with a hybrid casing was specially developed by SIG SAUER and is intended to replace the traditional 5.56 NATO cartridge.
We are excited to see who will emerge as the winner of the NGSW program, as this decision will certainly influence other armies as well.
