SICH: The CZ Bren 2 from Ukraine

Czech Weapons Factory, a subsidiary of the Colt CZ Group SE, has signed a letter of intent with the Ukrainian Defence Industry („Ukroboronprom“) to assemble rifles of the type CZ BREN 2 in Ukraine. The goal of the project is to equip the Ukrainian Armed Forces with a proven and high-quality NATO-standard weapon to improve their operational capabilities.

This first step towards a comprehensive technology transfer project for the CZ BREN 2 rifle is a direct result of its successful deployment on the battlefield in Ukraine by the Ukrainian Armed Forces“, emphasized Jan Zajíc, CEO of Czech Weapons Factory.

„The technology transfer from NATO member states is a crucial moment for our company, driven by successful international cooperation and ongoing defense reforms. This initiative is an important step towards building an arsenal of the free world in Ukraine“, commented Herman Smetanin, CEO of the Ukrainian defense industry, on the significance of the agreement.

The CZ BREN 2 is a modular rifle built to NATO standards, offering a high level of compatibility with other NATO member states and serving as a versatile weapon for military and police units due to its durability, precision, and caliber modularity. CZ BREN 2 rifles are used by the Army of the Czech Republic, the French Gendarmerie (GIGN), the Portuguese Army, the Polish Border Guard, the Romanian Gendarmerie, the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and other professional customers worldwide.

The project for the technology transfer of CZ BREN 2 rifles to Ukraine was presented as one of the key initiatives at the First International Defense Industry Forum (DFNC1) in Kyiv. The forum, held at the end of September 2023, was a joint effort of the Ukrainian Ministry of Strategic Industries, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attracting the participation of 252 companies from over 30 countries.
