This text describes a visit to the First Spear Range Day event before the SHOT SHOW in Las Vegas. Various companies showcase their equipment, including First Spear, IMI Defense, Ops-Core, and Aimpoint. The event features demonstrations and new products such as the AMP Communication Headset and the CompM5 optic.CORE Survival also presents the HEL-STAR 6 helmet light.
The day before the actual SHOT SHOW traditionally takes place in the botanic garden to the different Range Days in Las Vegas. We were at the First Spear Range Day for you. Many thanks to First Spear for the invitation.
In the desert, various companies are represented at the shooting range, showcasing their equipment and …
… up front are the stands with various weapons. This is where testing can be done with the available options.
First Spear is, of course, represented as the organizer with their own stand, but only showing a small selection of their great gear. We will meet them, along with the other companies, at SHOT SHOW 19.
We took a closer look at the booth of IMI Defense.
Because there are also some nice Bullpups in all variations of Tavor 21 lying around. Next to them are new AK derivatives.
Yes, it works. Tavor with Specter DR and Suppressor, shot well. (We are more Steyr AUG guys.)
In between, there are demonstrations where people gather. Otherwise, groups also form around the stands with weapons. It is a constant flow of people.
Ops-Core is there, showcasing the new AMP Communication Headset. This is essentially their in-house Comtac solution. The active hearing protection has an impressive quality, as we can say after trying it on site. At the same time, it is modular: it can be worn as a headset, mounted on the helmet with special mounts on the descending arm of the rail. And the mic can also be removed or switched from left to right.
With the MK1 Ops-Core also ventures into making glasses. Nice metal frame.
No, that's not Darth Vader. With the mouthguard from Ops-Core, you can, depending on the filter, filter out dust or hazardous substances.
Aimpoint, an important manufacturer of military optics, was also present. This is not new, but we got hold of it for the first time. The CompM5 has the classic function with a red dot, is impressively small, and is powered by a user-friendly AAA battery.
And this is Aimpoint's new pistol optic. As red dots on pistol slides become more common, Aimpoint is also part of this robust solution.
Phokus Research offers very practical trauma kits, some of which are worn directly on the plate carrier.
And also Wound Trainer, like this small silicon cube. This allows practice on how to treat wounds in case of emergency.
Who is where at night? That's what these viewlights are for. CORE Survival presents the HEL-STAR 6 in the latest Generation III.
