And not just through joining NATO. General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) announces that they have signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the delivery of amphibious bridge and ferry systems M3 to the Swedish Army. In addition, GDELS will deliver additional bays of the Improved Ribbon Bridge (IRB) system, which is already in use in Sweden.
Sweden will receive the latest version of the M3, specially designed for operations in Arctic conditions, and requiring only a crew of two soldiers due to a higher degree of automation.
The M3 is fully interoperable with the IRB through a coupling device that enables both bridge and ferry functions. The M3 and the IRB are in use worldwide, supporting numerous operations including peacekeeping and disaster relief. Sweden joins a growing M3 user community that includes several international customers in Europe and Asia. Both the amphibious bridge and ferry system M3 and the floating bridge IRB are capable of transporting all NATO vehicles and building a 100 m long floating bridge in 10 minutes (M3) and 30 minutes (IRB).
