On September 24, 2024, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner, together with the Mayor of Wiener Neustadt, Klaus Schneeberger, presented the master plan for the construction and modernization of the Flugfeld-Kaserne in Wiener Neustadt.
In mid-2025, the fundamental redesign of the infrastructure for the special forces of the Armed Forces, the Jagdkommando, will begin there. In addition to the construction of new buildings in solid construction, the outdoor facilities will also be extensively renewed. This includes the renewal of border structures, including fences and walls, to meet current security requirements. The cost for this will be 350 million euros. The project is expected to be completed by 2030.
State-of-the-art infrastructure for special units
In total, the project includes the renovation of a gross floor area of 27,500 m² and new buildings on an area of 63,500 m². The total cost amounts to approximately 350 million euros. Construction work will start in mid-2025 and is expected to be completed by 2030. The comprehensive measures range from the renewal of information technology to climate-friendly heating through a central geothermal system.
Special attention is paid to the sustainable design of the entire construction projects. The measures are carried out according to the "klimaaktiv criteria silver standard" to minimize the ecological footprint of the project. Wherever feasible, renovation is preferred over new construction to use resources efficiently. In addition, the sealing of surfaces for the recovery of natural infiltration areas is being promoted, benefiting both the environment and the water balance of the region.
Jagdkommando, as the end user, is involved from the beginning
The requirements for the new infrastructure were defined in close cooperation with the Jagdkommando. These specifications were included in the tender for the construction project, ensuring that the modern infrastructure is tailored as best as possible to the needs of the special units.
