Fast rockets for the German Navy

07/12/2024By Redaktion

Adding to a series of cooperation agreements between the Federal Republic of Germany and NATO partner Norway, the contracting of the respective national procurement authorities for the development of a supersonic, long-range cruise missile for anti-ship warfare has now taken place. The project „3SM“ (SuperSonic Strike Missile) is embedded in the existing German-Norwegian defense cooperation, which has already been successful in the procurement of joint U-boats of the U212CD type, as well as the sea-launched Naval Strike Missile (NSM) Block 1A.

The jointly developed weapon system is expected to be deployed on the new F126 class frigates on the German side from 2035. The development is led by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA) with the involvement of German industrial partners.

The project team, led by Norway, will closely collaborate with the Norwegian and German armed forces and their national research institutions to define and develop the world's most advanced long-range attack capabilities designed for future ground-based threats.
