B&T responds to the requests of veterinarians, police authorities, and hunters for a pistol that is as quiet as possible for euthanizing sick or injured wildlife. In many cases, it is impossible to approach an injured animal due to the dangers it poses. Tragically, there are cases every year where people are seriously injured or even killed in such situations. Therefore, B&T has developed the VP9. In many cases, a firearm is developed first and then the suppressor is added later as an accessory. At B&T, the weapon and suppressor were developed together with the goal of constructing the quietest 9mm pistol in the world.

Since the 50mm long barrel is drilled laterally, the powder gases can expand early into the silencer chambers. This ensures that even when using supersonic ammunition, it is "slowed down" to subsonic speed, preventing a supersonic crack. With such cartridges, the gunshot noise is reduced to as low as just 129 dB A, and when using subsonic ammunition, values of less than 125 dB A are possible. This extremely low noise level is not perceived as disturbing by the surrounding environment.

Since the VP9 is a bolt-action pistol with a 5-round magazine, it is also safe to use for users with little training. Due to the "slowed down" ammunition, the risk of overpenetration and ricochet is greatly minimized. By selecting an appropriate cartridge (e.g. RUAG Subsonic HP SX), over 300 joules are still delivered to the target, ensuring immediate and safe effect.
