Russian stuff on the floor

A group of Syrian rebels have released blurry images of a Russian TOS-1A being unloaded. The system is equipped with 30 rockets that fire thermobaric warheads, ideal for targeting infantry in fortified positions. The weapon has a maximum range of six kilometers and can launch all rockets within 7.5 seconds. The video shows the system being tested, while new images suggest possible collaboration between Syrian and Russian forces.

The images released by a group of Syrian rebels are blurry. However, the vehicle is still easily recognizable because it has a unique design. It is a Russian TOS-1A being unloaded from the truck up close. It is unclear whether this weapons system, which fires 30 rockets with 220 millimeter caliber, is being operated by Syrians or Russians. Despite being a rocket launcher, the system is referred to as a "flamethrower." The launcher fires rockets with thermobaric warheads, which generate high heat and pressure, making it particularly effective against infantry in fortified positions. At the fastest rate of fire, all rockets can be launched within 7.5 seconds. The weapon has a maximum range of six kilometers, ideal for softening a position for a breakthrough... Incidentally, this weapons system was recently also delivered to the Iraqi Army.

This Russian video shows the weapons system being tested.

But one can also see other, simpler equipment in new pictures. A journalist takes a selfie with Syrian soldiers. The image offers three possible interpretations: either the Syrian soldiers are on duty with Russians and have been given Russian helmets with Russian camouflage by them. Or they are "posing" with Russian helmets because Russians are present (unlikely). Or the units of the Syrian army are being completely outfitted with new Russian gear as part of joint efforts.
