Russia has deployed its most modern combat tank T-14 Armata in Syria, as announced by Minister of Trade and Industry Denis Manturov on April 19th. The Minister informed Russia-1 TV channel that the T-14 Armata was deployed in Syria "to test all details under combat conditions". The experiences gained will shape the "final image" of the combat tank. "Deliveries of the T-14 Armata tank will begin in 2021. Additional tests and modernizations requested by the Ministry of Defense (MoD) are ongoing," Manturov said.
In February, Alexander Potapov, CEO of the company Uravagonzavod, which manufactures the T-14, stated that the Russian army tanks will be made available for field trials in 2020. "We plan to obtain an export certificate for the T-14 next year. We already have pre-orders for the tank," he added without disclosing further details.
Not an actual image, but an ambitious fan graphic, like the image with the pretty lady in the cover. Unfortunately, there are no public photos of the Armata's deployment in Syria.
The T-14 Armata is a Russian 5th generation combat tank based on the Armata Universal Combat Platform. The tank is operated by a three-person crew from an armored capsule at the front. According to Russian state media, it is the world's first tank to incorporate technologies of "network-centric warfare". The T-14 can be used as a reconnaissance, target designation, and fire control vehicle for self-propelled artillery, surface-to-air missile systems, and T-90 tanks.
The tank's armament includes a remotely controlled 7.62mm machine gun and a 125mm smoothbore cannon. An unmanned version of the Armata is planned and currently in development. The T-14 has been equipped with an anti-slip coating and features a toilet to provide comfort to the crew during long combat missions.
