A chest pocket is practical for keeping essential gear that you need to access frequently at hand. It doesn't matter where you are on the go – you don't have to constantly stop, rummage through your main backpack, or unbuckle a bulky hip belt. Emergency equipment for activities like hiking, camping, fishing, or cycling can be quickly and conveniently carried on your body and is always within reach.

The Finnish company SAVOTTA offers a compact chest pocket with the Rintamus Chest Pack. It features a flat X-carrying system, a versatile interior layout, and external attachment points. Additionally, it offers optional carrying options: direct attachment to the shoulder straps of a backpack or to the side compression straps.

The SAVOTTA Rintamus has a capacity of approximately 2.6 liters, weighs 380 grams, and has dimensions of 250 x 150 x 70 mm. It is made from extremely durable Cordura 500D (100% polyamide) and has webbing made from 100% polyester (Multicam: 100% polyamide). The Rintamus Chest Pack features repairable components and covered zippers. It is also suitable for harsh environmental conditions without wearing out.

The zippers are water-resistant to a limited extent (although they are covered, they are not waterproof sealed).

On the outside, there is a Velcro area measuring 15 x 5 cm. It is used for attaching patches and labels. On either side of the front, there are two PALS webbing straps to the left and right of the Velcro area.

On the underside of the Rintamus Chest Pack, there are five PALS loops made of webbing and two water drainage grommets.

The Tourniquet Pouch from SAVOTTA or other MOLLE/PALS-compatible gear bags can be carried conveniently for quick access.

The interior features smart organization with numerous options for accommodating your gear: three large elastic webbing loops, two small and one large flat compartment, attachment loops, and a Velcro area for the attachment of organizer Velcro accessories.

The backside is equipped with a large, flat compartment that is ideal for storing larger items. Above it, there is a series of 50 mm wide elastic bands sewn in, forming three loops of about 8 cm wide, suitable for organizing smaller items.

The equipment we used, such as first aid materials, a space blanket, and a signal cloth, fit well here.

On the inner side of the front, there is a Velcro area measuring 20 x 10 cm, which allows for the attachment of organizer elements with Velcro, etc. As well as two attachment loops made of webbing.

Organization is everything. It is up to the user how to equip the Rintamus Chest Pack according to their needs.

The attachment loops made of webbing are excellent for gear such as binoculars or signal whistles. So for things that are important and should not be lost.

On the side facing the body, there is a flat, open 3D mesh pocket.

Between this and the back of the Rintamus Chest Pack is another large, open pocket for flat items. The shoulder strap can also be stowed here when not in use, or other flat items. We used it as a card holder.

The X-webbing system consists of 25 mm wide webbing, making it slim and flat. An elastic band at the back of the chest pack ensures that the backpack moves naturally with your body. This prevents restrictions during strenuous hikes. The EX-Harness, which we presented to you here, uses the same proven system that SAVOTTA also employs in this product.

The Rintamus Chest Pack can therefore be worn discreetly under the shoulder straps of a backpack.

The attachment is made using SR buckles that are attached to the upper and lower corners. The Rintamus Chest Pack is versatile and offers different carrying options. This flat chest strap with a 25 mm wide textile X strap can be worn in two ways: either as a standalone chest strap or attached to the shoulder straps of backpacks using compatible SR buckles. The SR buckles are not included.

CONCLUSION

SAVOTTA has developed the Rintamus Chest Pack as a robust, highly modular chest strap for wilderness, bushcraft, and outdoor activities. We have used the Chest Pack on extensive hikes at high altitudes, on steep paths and climbs, fully loaded on our backs, and on hot and rainy days and were completely satisfied. There was no chafing on the shoulders or in the back area. Thanks to its compact size, we were able to neatly store our gear, which we could access easily at any time.

Since the Rintamus Chest Pack is quite compact, it does not need to be heavily loaded, which is why the 25 mm wide straps are completely sufficient for a chest pack of this size. It is excellent as an ultra-light, standalone carrying strap. It is ideal for items like binoculars and range finders. However, it can also be seamlessly attached to the shoulder straps of larger backpacks, provided you have the right items.

The Rintamus Chest Pack presented here is available in the colors green, black, brown, M05 Woodland, Multicam, and Multicam Tropic starting at 94 euros. You can purchase the Rintamus directly on the homepage of SAVOTTA or from retailers that carry the brand.
