Rheinmetall introduces the RSG60, a lightweight and innovative 60mm mortar weapon for infantry and special forces. Weighing only 15.8kg, it can transform into a 6.8kg command mortar without tools, offering a "two-in-one solution". The mortar system boasts a range of up to 3200 meters with an extension, and features a carbon fiber barrel for lighter weight and strength. Designed for quick preparation and easy detachment, the RSG60 has undergone successful test firings. Visit www.rheinmetall.com for more information.

Rheinmetall has developed a new 60mm mortar weapon for infantry and special forces. The RSG60 features innovative design and construction elements, making the compact mortar system very lightweight. Furthermore, the standard version weighing only around 15.8 kilograms can be easily transformed into a 6.8 kilogram command mortar without the need for tools, making the RSG60 a "two-in-one solution."

The range in the standard version varies depending on ammunition and charge, up to 3200 meters. With an additional 30 centimeter barrel extension, the range can be increased by around 500 meters. In the command version, the RSG60 achieves a range of around 2000 meters.

The approximately 70 centimeter long barrel is made of steel with a carbon fiber wrapping to achieve the necessary strength and lighter weight. This makes the barrel around 30 percent lighter than a conventional mortar barrel made of steel. The base plate is made of a carbon fiber composite material. The innovative design of the mortar system is space-saving and allows users to prepare the mortar for firing from its transport position in a matter of seconds. Additionally, the RSG60 can be detached from the base plate without tools in around 30 seconds by releasing four retaining bolts, allowing it to be used as a command mortar.

The development of the new mortar weapon began in October 2017. Rheinmetall's goal was to complement its versatile 60mm mortar ammunition family and fire control components with a corresponding and future-oriented weapon. Weight savings, speed, and ergonomics were at the center of the RSG60's development work right from the start.
The RSG60 has already successfully completed several test firings.
