Rheinmetall maintains transport helicopter CH-53G.

12/10/2020By Redaktion

Rheinmetall has been tasked by the Bundeswehr to support, maintain, and repair transport helicopters of the Sikorsky CH-53G type. Starting in March 2021, the company will operate two maintenance docks at the Hubschraubergeschwader 64 facility of the German Air Force in Diepholz. The contract with Rheinmetall Aviation Services GmbH is for five years with an option to extend for an additional year. The value of the contract is in the lower double-digit million euro range.

In Diepholz, Hubschraubergeschwader 64 has a dedicated area for major repair work and a total of five Bundeswehr-owned maintenance docks for the CH-53G - an aircraft type that has been in use by the Bundeswehr since 1972.

The integrated technology group from Düsseldorf won a tender and will carry out the repair work on Bundeswehr helicopters at the Diepholz location with its subsidiary Rheinmetall Aviation Services GmbH (RAS). RAS will be supported in organization and aviation legal matters by Rheinmetall Technical Publications GmbH, a certified aviation technical operation based at Bremen Airport.

About Rheinmetall Aviation Services

Rheinmetall Aviation Services GmbH, also based in Bremen, was founded in early 2019 for a strategic partnership with Sikorsky in the Heavy Transport Helicopter (STH) procurement project. In this program, Rheinmetall will be responsible for maintenance, repair, training, and documentation tasks. Rheinmetall and Sikorsky have been closely collaborating since 2009 on various procurement projects. The expertise gained through this partnership will now be utilized for the Bundeswehr in Diepholz. Furthermore, the Bundeswehr will benefit in the long term from the partnership between Rheinmetall and Sikorsky and the experience gained at the Diepholz site in the STH procurement project.
