Rheinmetall and Raytheon establish US joint venture

10/01/2019By Redaktion

Rheinmetall and the US company Raytheon have established a joint venture in the USA to offer the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle in the competition for the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV) of the US Army. The joint venture, based in Detroit, Michigan/USA, operates under the name Raytheon Rheinmetall Land Systems LLC.

Lynx is a highly advanced infantry fighting vehicle developed by Rheinmetall, with Rheinmetall participating in a number of selection processes worldwide. In the USA, the Lynx team plans to submit its offer to participate in the OMFV competition by October 1, 2019.

The OMFV vehicles, scheduled for serial commissioning in the Army from 2026, are intended to replace the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. The new vehicle will be optimized according to the requirements of the US Army for combat in urban terrain as well as in difficult terrain. The US military places the highest priority on the OMFV project.

"Lynx will be built in America by American workers," emphasizes Ben Hudson, member of the Executive Board of Rheinmetall Defence and head of Rheinmetall's Vehicle Systems business unit. "Lynx offers the US Army an exceptional opportunity to select a combat vehicle for US troops that can face military challenges in the coming decades." "This advanced combat vehicle will be manufactured in America," reaffirms Sam Deneke, Raytheon Land Warfare Systems Vice President. "Our ambitious team will produce and deliver a combat vehicle for the US Army that protects our troops and provides them with an overwhelming advantage in military confrontations."

Raytheon and Rheinmetall joined forces in 2018 to offer the Lynx for the Army's OMFV competition and to advance a number of other joint projects. Lynx is a next-generation armored combat vehicle designed to meet the critical challenges of future military scenarios. The tracked vehicle has high growth potential to support new technologies throughout its entire life cycle while also featuring lower life cycle costs.

The Raytheon technology planned for the Lynx includes advanced company weapon systems such as the TOW missile, an active protection system, third-generation sight systems, the Coyote unmanned aerial system, and systems to counter cyber threats.
