RHEINMETALL: REEQ is taken over

03/18/2024By Redaktion

RHEINMETALL has acquired the Dutch startup REEQ, thereby expanding its vehicle portfolio with innovative light hybrid vehicles. In early March 2024, the Dutch subsidiary of the technology group's Vehicle Systems Division, Rheinmetall Defence Nederland B.V., acquired 100% of the shares of Dutch startup company REEQ. With this acquisition, Rheinmetall expands its portfolio of light tactical vehicles and also ventures into hybrid technology with a fully electric powertrain in a militarily used vehicle. The purchase price has been kept confidential by both sides.

REEQ has developed a new generation of mobility with its vehicles, connecting tactical transport with a mobile power source (Microgrid) and preparing fully for autonomy. The technology was developed in the Netherlands and is produced there.

Currently, REEQ's vehicle portfolio consists of an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV), a Side-by-Side Buggy, and a Quad, all three with exactly the same full electric powertrain. With the acquisition of REEQ, Rheinmetall is able to serve the Dutch and European market in the field of light tactical mobility, both manned and unmanned, combined with a Microgrid. The industrial strength of Rheinmetall and the innovation power of a startup complement each other. Within the Rheinmetall Group, REEQ retains its status as a startup in the development sector. The further development and serial production of these vehicles will also take place in the Netherlands.

With this acquisition, Rheinmetall responds to the demands of numerous Dutch politicians and defense experts to contribute to strengthening the defense industry with industrial strength and specialization. By developing and producing in the Netherlands, the strategic autonomy and Dutch position in the field of military electrification and autonomy in the international defense industry are also reinforced.

Rheinmetall Defence Nederland B.V. in Ede, Netherlands, is part of the Vehicle Systems Division and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH. Rheinmetall AG is a leading technology company worldwide.

REEQ is a Dutch startup that has been in existence since 2018. In that year, on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Defense, REEQ conducted its first innovation project in the field of electromobility in the military sector. In the following years, REEQ has continuously evolved in this field.
