Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) has signed a framework contract with the Austrian Federal Procurement GmbH Vienna for the delivery of various logistical vehicles for the Austrian Armed Forces (ÖBH). The framework contract is for seven years and includes deliveries of up to 1,375 vehicles from the HX, TGS, and TGM series. The potential contract volume is up to 525 million Euros.
The Austrian Republic's state truck tender included a total of 23 lots, six of which were intended for the military sector. In view of the different technical requirements of the lots, RMMV offered vehicle types from the TGM, TGS, and HX series in different axle configurations. In addition, various body systems such as cranes, flatbeds, tippers, roll-off systems, swap systems, and snow clearing systems were offered. RMMV was awarded all six military lots.
"Being able to supply the Armed Forces with state-of-the-art truck systems from our factory in the Austrian capital, Vienna, fills us with great pride," says Michael Wittlinger, CEO of RMMV. "Our mission at Rheinmetall is to equip those who are committed to our security as best as possible. We are convinced that our vehicles will protect, support, and satisfy the Austrian soldiers in the best possible way."
The procurement of logistic vehicles is part of a comprehensive modernization of the Armed Forces. Austrian Minister of Defense Klaudia Tanner emphasizes the importance of this initiative: "With an investment volume of 560 million Euros, a total of 170 armored vehicles will be modernized by 2029. This includes 58 Leopard 2 A4 battle tanks and 112 Ulan infantry fighting vehicles. After the major investment package to procure 36 AW169 'Lion' helicopters for 873 million Euros, this is the next big step towards a modern army. The slogan 'Mission forward' is fulfilled by concrete actions."
The Austrian Armed Forces have been a very good customer of RMMV for many years. Various vehicles from the TGM, TGS, and HX series are already successfully in use. Over 200 vehicles from the TGM series with double cabs and swap body systems are in operation. Furthermore, vehicles from the HX series with three-way tipper bodies and rear cranes, as well as vehicles from the TGS 8x8 series with Palfinger hook systems, are in the process of being delivered in the coming years. Since the end of 2021, the Armed Forces have also been using the integrated protected interchangeable cabin. It can be mounted on existing HX series vehicles within a very short time, depending on requirements.
