For the ammunition factory construction announced in Ukraine in February 2024, Rheinmetall has now received its first important order from the Ukrainian government, marking the starting point for the realization of the project.

The order for the Dusseldorf-based technology group Rheinmetall includes the complete technical equipment of the factory up to commissioning. This represents a total value in the low triple-digit million EUR range, which will be booked as new orders starting in the third quarter of 2024. Delivery is expected to begin shortly and be completed within a few years. It is intended to start ammunition production in Ukraine within 24 months. Together with its Ukrainian joint venture partner, Rheinmetall will also be responsible for operating the facility. Armin Papperger, Chairman of the Executive Board of Rheinmetall AG: “We follow up our words with actions and, together with our partner, create a Ukrainian center of excellence for ammunition. The commissioning underscores the trust in Rheinmetall's expertise and manufacturing capacities. We are grateful to be able to support the country in its reindustrialization and strengthening of defense capabilities."

Currently, measures are being taken in Ukraine to prepare the necessary infrastructure. A joint venture between Rheinmetall and a state-owned Ukrainian company to operate the ammunition factory is about to be established. This was announced on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in February 2024.

In June 2024, the CEO of Rheinmetall AG, Armin Papperger, and the Ukrainian Minister for Strategic Industries, Oleksandr Kamyschin, signed an agreement to expand strategic cooperation during the "Ukraine Recovery Conference" in Berlin. A few days earlier, they opened an armored vehicle factory in western Ukraine operated by the joint venture Rheinmetall Ukrainian Defense Industry LLC. Later this year, the first Lynx armored personnel carrier from Rheinmetall is expected to be delivered to the Ukrainian armed forces and production on-site is set to commence as soon as possible.
