Rheinmetall makes a significant contribution to the U.S. Army's lightweight artillery gun project. The American subsidiary American Rheinmetall Munition from Stafford, Virginia (USA) has received a delivery order for a shorter and lighter artillery gun from the largest U.S. military service. This measure is intended to support the National Defense Strategy. The order value is approximately 2.5 million USD (2.4 million EUR).
A lightweight artillery gun is intended to improve the mobility, maneuverability, and effectiveness of U.S. Army artillery systems and provide the capability to shoot at long distances, which is desired for the entire howitzer fleet. The knowledge gained will also feed into the ongoing capability assessment of the U.S. Army for next-generation armament.
Colonel Lance Green, the military deputy of the Combat Capabilities Development Command-Armament Center (DEVCOM AC): "In addition to numerous other active projects in the field of science and technology, this DEVCOM AC project can give our armed forces a significant advantage in an increasingly complex security environment."
"We are proud to be able to support the U.S. Army in the development of next-generation precision fire technologies and especially in the development of a prototype of a potentially groundbreaking lightweight howitzer technology," said John Somich, CEO of American Rheinmetall Munition. "Rheinmetall is a global leader in artillery technologies, including ammunition, propellants, and guns, and we will bring our vast expertise, technology, and full commitment to the U.S. Army for these projects."
American Rheinmetall Munition is currently expanding its role as a significant supplier of innovative next-generation weapons and ammunition technologies in the USA. The company relies on the top-of-the-line ammunition and defense products portfolio offered by Rheinmetall and its global subsidiaries. For several decades, American Rheinmetall Munition has been producing and delivering high-performance training and operational ammunition to U.S. military forces and law enforcement agencies.
The recent contract for the delivery of a prototype for an artillery system represents another opportunity to demonstrate American Rheinmetall Munition's commitment as a key partner of the U.S. Army and to deliver next-generation technologies.
American Rheinmetall Munition is part of the American Rheinmetall family. Rheinmetall's defense companies active in the USA include American Rheinmetall Systems in Biddeford, Maine, American Rheinmetall Vehicles in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and the US parent company American Rheinmetall Defense in Reston, Virginia.
