Rheinmetall has received an order from the United States Marine Corps for the production and delivery of 40mm training ammunition. The ammunition, type 40mm x 53 MK281 MOD3 High Velocity Practice Day/Night Marking Cartridge, is being delivered by the subsidiary American Rheinmetall Munitions (ARM) based in Stafford, Virginia, with production taking place in Camden, Arkansas.
The order volume amounts to 59 million USD (51 million EUR), with the first delivery order booking of 25 million USD (21.7 million EUR) now. Production is expected to begin no later than the third quarter of 2019, with an estimated annual delivery quantity of up to 700,000 rounds.
Rheinmetall's MK281 is a non-toxic training ammunition that does not cause duds. It is fired from the Grenade Machine Gun Mk19. The MK281 rounds utilize unique target marking technologies that allow effective training both day and night. The MK281 reduces costs by not causing duds or fires on the firing range. It also creates the opportunity for the user to train fire and movement in a dud-free environment.
For over ten years, ARM has been producing and delivering top-quality high-performance training and operational ammunition to the US military and security agencies.
