REVIEW: Watershed Animas

06/20/2015By Redaktion

A week ago we already introduced a waterproof equipment bag - the Yukon from Watershed - today we continue with the Watershed Animas. The Animas is more of a backpack than a bag. Therefore, the closure at the top is used, like a classic toploader. This has the disadvantage that you only have a small opening for loading and unloading. Less closure means less prone to errors - so everything has its advantages and disadvantages.

The closure is like the Yukon, a rubber lip with a triple seal that is closed with Fastex buckles on the right and left. Here, too, a snap button is built in the middle for security.

Additionally, the Animas has a compression strap that runs over the center of the lid. Here you will also find a handle for one-handed carrying.

As a backpack, a carrying system must not be missing: unfortunately, there is no padding or anything for comfort.

Since the pack was not designed for long-distance transport, we welcome this and accept it as a space and weight saving measure.

The shoulder straps are padded according to the volume and there is also a hip belt.

However, this does not bear any weight, it only serves as a fixation point. All straps are completely removable to be able to use the bag as a bag as well.

Everything attached to straps and fixation points was sewn first and then glued, just like the Yukon.

The Animas comes with 52 liters and 1100 grams and is made of 420D nylon. The external dimensions are 68cmx38cmx28cm. It is also available at Globetrotter in Coyote Brown and for €129.95.

CONCLUSION: Both dry bags make a good impression in terms of workmanship, design, and function. The leisure line does not have to hide behind the military line and is much more attractive in terms of price. It is unlikely that the normal consumer will be able to break these bags or get the contents wet - unless they are not closed properly. Only the glued mounts could be a weak point, although this should not cause any problems with the tightness - furthermore, Watershed offers a lifetime warranty on all products. We can recommend the bags, the contents definitely stay dry and airtight.
