REVIEW: Warrior Assault Systems Recon Plate Carrier

Good and practical plate carriers are truly not in short supply. Warrior Assault Systems (WAS) is known for its solid solutions and has now introduced the new Recon Plate Carrier to the market. Today, we want to introduce it to you and show you how to integrate it with the Pathfinder Chest Rig - HERE in the SPARTANAT Review - from WAS.

SONY DSCSo far so classic: the Recon from the front only shows one noticeable feature, namely the buckles on the chest. The flap underneath can be removed. But more on that later.

SONY DSCOn the back, everything looks similarly classic, except that the flap at the bottom is fixed, where the cumberbund is kitted. At the top of the carrier is a carry handle, so a handle for emergencies is visible. The plate carrier comes with dummy SAPIs made of foam, so it is also filled when empty.

SONY DSCIn all carriers of WAS, we like the good workmanship: the shoulders are not "naked" here either, but already have good padding, including cable tunnels.

SONY DSCInside, WAS uses rough mesh, so that air can come to the body and the carrier is also ventilated when sweating. The PC is made of 500D Cordura, it is available in Medium and Large.

SONY DSCAirLite Cumberbunds - those that consist mainly of MOLLE - are very popular right now. MOLLE is stiffened with a strip of plastic inside. Warrior Assault Systems also picks up on the AirLite trend. The advantage: everything is airy on the sides. At the same time, the owner can also add pockets to the cumberbund if necessary.

SONY DSCBut the magic of the Recon Plate Carrier lies in two things: firstly, the flap that closes the carrier can be completely removed. It is attached at the top with two clips, and with Velcro on the plate carrier itself. The great advantage: the owner can configure one, two, or even three such flaps fixed and immediately replace them when needed. For example, the wearer could have a purely "pistol flap" and another one designed for a rifle and can quickly switch as needed, for example at the range.

SONY DSCThis is the Pathfinder Chest Rig (HERE the review), which is also velcroized on the back. Simply remove the "safety" - a Cordura sheet with Velcro - and the Pathfinder is ready to be integrated into the Recon Plate Carrier.

SONY DSCRemember: the Pathfinder is a Chest Rig similar to the HSP D3CR Carrier. It can hold four to six magazines, unlike the D3CR, it is freely configurable in the center. Small, practical, and yet a powerhouse among Chest Rigs. When the harness is removed, the user has a belly load that fits perfectly to the Recon Plate Carrier.

SONY DSCThis is how integration works: the Recon is clipped at its top, fixed with Velcro at the waist. Now it is tensioned backwards with the clips of the AirLite Cumberbund. The clips on the carrier, which previously held the cumberbund, are folded forward, under the Pathfinder, and do not interfere with the wearer in the least. Well thought out in the construction.

SONY DSCThis is the whole system. The clear advantage: here everything comes from one source at a good price, WAS has the rig and matching plate carrier. Everything fits and matches because it is coordinated. You can expand the entire system even further in another escalation stage, which we will show you soon in this cinema.

CONCLUSION: The Recon Plate Carrier is a good basic system, but its magic lies in the expansion possibilities. WAS follows the current trend here and leads the way. Replaceable flap and integrable Chest Rig are great options. Unlike the D3CR - where you can buy other PC's (e.g. Mayflower APC) - here the entire system comes from one source. The advantage of this flexible solution: you can drop the Pathfinder Rig with all the ammunition and equipment and then carry a slick plate carrier that still protects the man. Or the PC can be completely removed and the load is carried with shoulder straps back to the Pathfinder Chest Rig, which is thrown over for a quick reconnaissance mission where you don't have to and don't want to wear plates. This is an extremely practical level of flexibility.

The Warrior Assault Systems Recon Plate Carrier is available in Germany at RECON COMPANY: in Coyote for 209.95 euros, in Multicam for 214.95 euros. More colors are expected to come. It is also available at all dealers carrying WAS products.
