Admittedly, at first we dismissed the gloves from Viktos as a nice gimmick... until we took a closer look at them. What the Shortshot from Viktos can do and what makes it so special, here in our SPARTANAT review (video at the top in the featured image).
Viktos is a new manufacturer from the States - first seen at Shot Show 2018. The company produces products in "tactical lifestyle" - mainly tactically inconspicuous clothing with corresponding features. In addition to pants with magazine pockets, hoodies with quick access to the weapon, boots, and shirts, there are also four different glove models. These are the Operatus, the Longshot, the Wartorn, and the Shortshot presented here.
Here's the Wartorn - an eye-catcher, but at first glance, the glove looks more like something for "Fancy Airsoft". We were even more surprised when we first slipped into the Shortshot.
The fit was sensationally good right away, thanks to the anatomically preformed fingers, the hand is already in grip mode.
On the inside, in addition to the airy main material, there is a section made of Digihide goatskin. It extends over half the palm and part of the thumb - basically, anything that needs a good grip.
Also designed for modern times, the index finger and thumb are equipped with a special pad that allows for touchscreen device operation.
Although it wasn't necessary, the inner material is so fine that in our test, even the middle and ring fingers could operate with it.
The Shortshot, as the name suggests, is a short operational glove and therefore only goes up to the wrist. If that's too short for you, you should switch to the Longshot. The glove is closed with a Velcro strap.
The outside of the glove is rubberized and can be gripped well even with wet fingers.
For secure storage, there are loops so the gloves can dangle from a carabiner.
The surface of the Shortshot is made of Nomex, making the glove fire resistant. The knuckles are additionally protected with polymer inserts. These, unlike other gloves, are soft and flexible - the wearer is not restricted by the thick "knuckles."
Here's a comparison image of Mechanix gloves that are not fire resistant. The upper material burns extremely quickly and melts together. This is not only very uncomfortable on the skin, but also quickly dangerous for the wearer.
The Shortshot, on the other hand, changes color slightly, and that's it. The "morale" section naturally scorches and will start to burn with prolonged exposure, but underneath is Nomex, so everything is safe.
Morale section? That's what we named the area found on the upper finger joints: Small Velcro fields where letters can be applied. Supplied with the Shortshot is "Shrt Shot," with the Longshot "Long Shot," and with the Wartorn "#War Torn."
For an extra charge, you can buy the Moralphabet: Now you have several more options to form words. A few examples from us:
