Western-style complete systems that also integrate a kind of backpack are in fashion, since Crye Precision also made everything modular with the JPC 2.0. Now you can choose between heavy and light armor, but the back remains the same for all - from the zip-on MOLLE panel to the backpack-like part. The solution was already there for others: Velocity Systems is one of the innovative companies in the American market. We recently presented to you the SCARAB Light Plate Carrier on SPARTANAT, and this is the Zip-On Back Panel from Velocity Systems. Both are available in Germany at GEAR MANIACS. Looks like a backpack, is one. In the middle at the top an opening for the drinking tube, which can then be guided over the shoulder. However, you can also charge a radio and pass the cable through.
Beneath the surrounding zipper lies a simple external compartment without organization for small items.
On top of that a Velcro area: patches are always great. And a single row of MOLLE to be able to expand with a pouch.
At the very bottom a hole. The drain eyelet lets the moisture, if it has penetrated, also escape again.
The access is generous. Three quarters of the SCARAB™ LT Zip-On Back Panel can be opened.
At the top inside a Velcro loop for attaching a hydration bladder, which has its own compartment.
The compartment can also be tightened with shock cord. Thus far, so practical - and unspectacular. A functional interior doesn't need more.
The magic of the Zip-On Back Panel is its zipper, which attaches it to the back. Open from the bottom right and left, ...
... or hook it from the top when closing. The zippers - see the fingers for comparison - are massive.
Additionally, the panel can be secured with four clips on the back MOLLE so that nothing moves.
Once removed on one side, you can see the mounting points clearly. More pictures along with the plate carrier can be found HERE on the SCARAB LT Review.
CONCLUSION: The storm gear together with the plate carrier as an ideally combined system: that's practical. No additional shoulder straps that bulge. Still quick to put on and take off, possibly with the help of teammates. Best quality from Velocity Systems.
The Velocity Systems SCARAB™ LT Zip-On Back Panel is available from GEARMANIACS on request for 135 euros. The Velocity Systems Scarab Light plate carrier is also available.
