Our new baby: small yet already big, heavy when filled, and yet it does not cry. This insert backpack is from Velocity Systems and is called 48 Hour Assault Pack. "Keep it simple" is usually the motto of VelSys - and they are right.
But let's approach it from the back: Mesh padded back, well-padded shoulder straps. The connection point to the man is functional. D-rings for attaching stuff to the straps, plus loops. All good...
On the man: broad chest needs a restraint that holds the shoulder straps. Here, without plate carrier and other bulky gear, it's still unproblematic, but when more stuff is on the body, fixing the straps makes even more sense.
The Assault Pack on the back: it has three compartments to store all the gear you need to take. The size is appealing, not just for the mission, but more storage space. A bit smaller than the Assault III Day Pack.
Top view: the carrying handle has two loops on the right and left. Under the handle, you can also see the opening where the tube from the hydration bladder can be threaded.
Inside, there is a separate compartment for the hydration bladder, otherwise the interior is not divided.
In the smaller front compartment, there is a small subcompartment: a zippered compartment for small items. So they don't get lost.
And around the outside, there is a stretch compartment that is open at the top, but secured with a clip. Here you can quickly stuff something in and take it with you. Flexible, but not like a Beavertail.
On the left side, there is MOLLE webbing, so you can attach a pouch according to your needs. You can also see how far the zipper, which opens the main compartment, goes down on the body of the backpack.
On the opposite side, there is a fixed stretch compartment, where the wearer can place a Nalgene water bottle for example. You can also see the compression strap to keep the fully loaded Assault Pack in shape.
Everything is open: the big zipper opened. There we see the main compartment in its simple outfit. But honestly, you don't need more.
CONCLUSION: The Velocity Systems 48 Hour Assault Pack is a compact solution for operations. Enough space, no unnecessary compartments and gimmicks. As always, Velocity Systems proves that they produce "no shit" gear that is practical, simple, and well thought out.
The Velocity Systems 48 Hour Assault Pack is available directly at GEARMANIACS for 219 euros. Available in Multicam, Coyote, and Ranger Green colors.
