It is impossible to say who started with the foldable drinking bottles. The fact is, these things are incredibly practical. When empty, they take up no space and are very light. Martin has here taken the 0.7L size model Eclipse from Vapur.
The Vapur Eclipse is just one of several different models of the company. What makes the Eclipse interesting is the closure. It is relatively large, allowing for easy filling and cleaning.
Furthermore, the closure has a large carabiner that allows for easy carrying on pants or backpacks. The color contrast of the carabiner helps to easily find the bottle in the dark. Additionally, you can clamp the empty and rolled-up bottle into the carabiner to keep the bottle in a rolled form.
The bottom is wider to allow the bottle to stand by itself. It does this even when half full.
If you choose the 0.7L size presented here, you have the right amount of water for shorter trips and it is not too heavy to carry on a belt loop. The empty weight of the 0.7L variant is 58 grams, in the 1L version 65 grams.
The Vapur Eclipse is BPA free and dishwasher safe.
CONCLUSION: If you are looking for a light foldable bottle for daily use, you should take a closer look at the Eclipse. It is affordable, easy to clean, and great to drink from. Drinking with just one hand, as with a spout, is somewhat difficult here. You can think of it as drinking from a Nalgene Widemouth bottle.
The Eclipse is available in 0.7L and 1L sizes in Olive and Midnight Blue. It is available at ASMC starting at €15.99.
