When it gets cold outside, you should wear something. However, those who are tactically active in the cold usually have higher demands. Fortunately, UF PRO excellently meets these demands and recently released a new version of the Hunter FZ. In this review, we want to introduce you to the new Hunter FZ Gen 2 with the new Multicam fabric.
Let's start with the latest first, because we think it's great how much UF PRO deals with fabrics and tries to use them optimally.
The foundation is a windproof and water-repellent PU membrane, which is covered with a smooth and durable nylon ripstop fabric. This material is particularly abrasion-resistant, much quieter than purely synthetic fabrics, and ensures a good climate in cold temperatures.
Now let's move on to the general overview of the jacket. FZ in the name stands for Full Zipper, because there is a zipper running along the entire front.
Typical for UF PRO, the jacket is athletically cut, but thanks to the stretch material used everywhere, it fits perfectly. Nonetheless, we took one size larger. The jacket shown here is size Medium, while size Small is normally worn in everyday life and by other manufacturers.
The length is also optimal and goes down far enough at the back.
There is a special polyester mesh material on the sides and under the arms, which is very abrasion-resistant and thus maintains its durability. Additionally, it is slightly more breathable. In contrast to the rest of the fabric, it is especially much more stretchy.
Perhaps a bit unusual, but there is no reinforcement of any kind at the elbows. Therefore, please do not crawl too much on the ground.
There is a Multicam Softshell Stretch material at the sleeve cuff to ensure a proper closure.
In contrast to the first version, this one was designed slightly larger and more stretchable, making it easier to pull the sleeves over larger watches.
As typical for UF PRO, a variety of zippered pockets are of course included. Here you can see the small one on the forearm.
There are also the typical pockets on the upper arms.
These pockets offer a spacious compartment for storing IDs or other small items. Unfortunately, there is no loop for hanging or a pen "pocket" inside.
Pens or chem lights, however, have a place outside, as there is an insert for a pen above the patch area on each sleeve.
There's nothing to complain about on the patch areas, except that the snow tends to get caught in them. But we can live with that ...
Now let's go back to the front. Here, YKK is the king. The zipper is smooth and goes all the way up.
YKK, the gold standard for many when it comes to zippers. They do great business with UF PRO, as YKK is everywhere on the jacket.
The collar itself is not padded inside, but of course has protection against the zipper.
A loop for hanging the jacket shows the slightly more civilian side.
Time to take off to introduce you to the wonderful interior of the jacket.
Inside is a special liner. 37.5 Technology by Cocona - Polyester Fleece Material. This ensures that the jacket dries quickly and prevents odors from forming.
Even though the surface is smooth, the structure comes through. Again, the fabric is very comfortable to wear, enhancing the comfort of the close-fitting jacket.
Here is the label of the jacket, it only briefly mentions the specific fabrics, labeling them with the general terms "Polyamide" and "Polyester."
So where does this jacket fit in? Well, it has no lining but is designed for a temperature range of 5 to 25 degrees Celsius. Apart from the camouflage fabric, we find that the jacket has a wide range of uses and feels very comfortable in civilian settings.
We wore it more in everyday life than in training. It fits well under a plate carrier during training, although the zipper can be a bit uncomfortable. The warmth is good, but of course, insulated jackets have an advantage here. A t-shirt and the jacket were sufficient for activities in temperatures of 5-10 degrees.
CONCLUSION: UF PRO has really achieved something with the new fabric. In short, it's great, and you can feel an improvement in the advertised areas, especially in terms of noise. Overall, the HUNTER FZ Gen 2 jacket is a versatile piece that feels most comfortable in everyday activities and proves itself in tactical situations.
You can get the HUNTER FZ Gen 2 jacket HERE directly from UF PRO for 189 euros in the new Multicam version.
