Born out of collaboration with an extreme athlete (article HERE in English), now available to everyone, the Delta AcE Sweater from UF PRO. It could be called a "winter combat shirt," but that doesn't do justice to its full range of capabilities. We extensively tested this special piece of winter clothing and will share our experiences with you. (Click on all images to enlarge)
What better test location for harsh winter conditions than the Alps in winter? In this case, in the Hohe Tauern National Park near Mallnitz. The outside temperature was around -5°C, with light wind, unfortunately - or fortunately - no rain or snowfall. We undertook a short hike here with a backpack of about 20 kilometers.
This is where the Delta AcE Sweater really showed its full potential. The sleeves are windproof and lined with 110g/m² GLoft. The front is made of windproof and water-resistant softshell material with a zippered belly pocket on both sides. The interior is fully padded with fine fleece. The back and underarm area are made of quick-drying Cocona fleece to wick sweat away quickly from the body without causing chilling. The shoulders feature the typical UF PRO air/pac inserts, which are especially useful when using a backpack. The padding ensures that the straps do not rest directly on the shoulders, preventing cold spots in the shoulder area.
Fleece hand warmers with thumb holes are attached to the cuffs for when it gets really cold or if you happen to forget your gloves at home. Zippered pockets for small items are located on the upper and lower arms in the usual sizes. The fit is very body-hugging and close-fitting. We tested size M, and our tester usually wears size M as well.
As long as we were moving, the temperature inside the sweater remained just right thanks to the clever choice of fabrics. For longer breaks, it is advisable to wear a warm jacket, such as the UF PRO Delta Eagle Softshell Jacket, to avoid getting cold. The three different functional fabrics come together in the front shoulder area (seen on the left of the image). On the right side of the image, the inside of the stand-up collar is visible: soft, warm fleece.
CONCLUSION: An extremely successful piece of winter clothing of the usual high quality from UF PRO. A winter combat shirt that clearly shows the influences from sports. Especially during intense activities with a backpack or body armor, the AcE Sweater displays its full potential.
Available at UF Pro for €129 excl. shipping in OD and Black
