Ballistic doesn't always have to be. Often it's enough to protect your head from impacts and scratches. Or to use the helmet as a carrier for light, camera, night vision device ... If you also want to do this relatively easily, you should look for a helmet made of carbon fiber. Advantage of the material: light and strong. There is one from the Ukrainian company UaRms, the TREK, and we took a look at it.
This is what the TREK looks like on the head. One can say, it cuts a fine figure. Somehow it reminds us of an Ops-Core Bump Helmet, but yet it is somehow different.
From the other side, the feeling of familiarity doesn't let us go. The TREK helmet weighs just under a kilo without accessories and provides a stable platform for e.g. a night vision device.
OK, we want to dissolve the feeling of familiarity, it is the rail that strongly reminds you of an Ops-Core helmet, because it is quite identical, which is not a negative thing. Never change a winning team ...
By directly copying the widely spread standard, you have a very large number of accessory mounts and lights available. We tried some and all of them held impeccably.
But the TREK helmet from UaRms is not a clumsy copy, rather the best of many worlds has been combined. The connoisseurs among you will have already recognized the width adjustment, it is the BOA System, which is mainly found in Team Wendy helmets.
Here the TREK next to a Team Wendy LTP helmet. The differences are noticeable. Only the BOA System, which we find very good and user-friendly, has been used.
Something else inspired by Team Wendy are the safety hooks for the night vision device.
From the outside, there are few similarities between the helmets. Yes, both have square ventilation slots, but they differ in shape and other details.
The night vision device mount is executed the same as on the ballistic brother of the TREK, the TOR-D - HERE in our SPARTANAT Review. We tried some night vision arms and they all held up without any problems.
The comfortable KRONA helmet interior provides a good fit and long-lasting comfort.
The strapping is closed in a very classic way using a side buckle on the TREK helmet.
The strap width adjustment has been adopted by Ops-Core. Why reinvent something that works well?
We always have the urge to show you the inside of helmets, as with the TREK. Rails and strapping are held in place by two screws on each side. These can be quickly removed, and if desired, the TREK can also be used without the rails.
As already seen with the ventilation slits, the TREK consists of an outer shell made of carbon fiber and an inner helmet to which the KRONA padding is attached.
Here we have removed the inner helmet from the shell and separated the KRONA padding. The inner helmet is actually attached with Velcro.
This is what the inner helmet of the TREK looks like. Anatomically shaped plastic with plenty of hook and loop for attaching the padding.
The KRONA helmet interior consists of layers of padding. One layer of shock-absorbing cushions, …
… onto which a second layer of comfort padding is attached with hook and loop. A proven concept. The TREK is very comfortable to wear when everything is properly adjusted. We wore it for over eight hours straight for testing purposes and did not experience any unusual discomfort.
Here is a detailed view of the outer shell of the TREK helmet. Thanks to the carbon fiber, the shell is only 2mm thin but extremely strong.
Externally, the shell is covered with plenty of hook and loop for all sorts of blinking lights and badges. The design of the TREK is kept classic and round.
CONCLUSION: Another successful helmet from UaRms from the East – HERE is the company in an interview on SPARTANAT. If you take only the best from Team Wendy and Ops Core, this is exactly the helmet that comes out. The quality of the workmanship is very high, the helmet is very high quality. The wearing comfort is very good due to the fine padding. Some people just love Carbon …
