REVIEW: Travel John disposable urinal

02/21/2015By Redaktion

Anyone who has ever spent a night outdoors in the winter knows this all too well: in the middle of the night, nature calls at sub-zero temperatures. So, out of the sleeping bag, in your underwear, into the boots, and relieve yourself. Completely frozen and wide awake, it's back to the sleeping bag. Not fun.

The company TravelJohn has tackled this problem and developed disposable urinals that may not be very tactical, but are incredibly practical - not just during bivouacs. TravelJohn can be used anywhere where there is no toilet or opportunity to relieve oneself, as Martin personally tested.

The disposable urinal comes in a small package, and the actual bag is stored in the "filling nozzle" that fits both men and women for transport.

To use it, unroll the bag, open the zipper closure, and let it flow. The bag holds about 800ml, which can be seen marked on the outside.

Inside is a bag with polymer crystals that absorb any liquid and turn it into gel within 10 seconds. The big advantage is that nothing stinks or spills out.

The TravelJohn was tested in the above conditions, truly cold and packed in a bivy bag. As a man, you can easily and blindly use the TravelJohn while lying down. Then simply close the zipper and set it aside. Absolutely odorless and leak-proof bag! The colleagues initially laughed at the test the day before, but they engaged in the experiment - the next morning, enthusiasm was high: the TravelJohn is fantastic.
