REVIEW: TRAND Modular Vehicle Panel

02/14/2024By Redaktion

Keeping things handy and especially securely fastened to the seat? With the Metal Panel from TRAND , this is not a problem, even for really heavy items where a traditional fabric seat panel may quickly reach its limits. Let's take a closer look at it.

This is what the "Modular Vehicle Panel" from TRAND looks like. The MOLLE/PALS pattern will immediately catch the eye of the knowledgeable person. Additionally, the panel is equipped with additional holes and slots to screw attachments onto.

The seat panel is built like a tank. It is made from sturdy 4 mm thick metal with a special matte black coating. If you wanted to, you could easily do pull-ups on it, if it didn't hurt your fingers so much. It measures approximately 73 x 35 cm.

As mentioned before, everything is extremely well-made and sturdy. The main body is screwed to the seat mount with eight screws and screw adhesive. It can withstand quite a bit of weight, as weapons and ammunition are meant to be securely attached to it.

The seat mount is also made of solid metal. Everything is beautifully machined and the finish is top-notch.

On the side of the mounting block, as we'll call it from now on, there is a magnetic holder along with a matching Allen key in case a screw should loosen.

The mounting on the seat itself is very simple, yet ingenious. The supports of the headrest are simply guided between the mounting block and the clamping plate. Both sides are covered with a rubber layer.

So simply loosen the screw, position the clamping plate, bring the panel close, and tighten the screw again.

Life can sometimes be that simple. In the image, you can see the fully assembled "Modular Vehicle Panel."

Here it is again in all its glory. The assembly takes less than five minutes and we have to admit, we were really surprised at how extremely stable this simple mounting holds.

The fixing screw does not interfere when sitting down. Depending on the seat design, it may be that you bump your shoulder against the knob when getting out. If it presses against your neck while sitting, it is a standard metric screw and you can replace it with one.

Mounts

Now an empty "Modular Vehicle Panel" is not very useful. Like an artist, you have a blank canvas available that wants to be decorated. In our case, TRAND offers you some rubber mounts.

These are bolted to the panel. A very stable way to secure your equipment.

The screws and washers are included. It is recommended to attach the mounts to the seat before mounting the panel, as it can be quite tricky otherwise.

The finished mounted bracket. Just need another one higher up and the weapon can be securely mounted.

That's roughly how it can look. The mounts actually come from the outdoor area and are originally designed to securely hold shovels and other off-road accessories. In use as a weapon mount, they work flawlessly, but they are not very quick to open.

MOLLE

So we also want to try out a specialized weapon mount. This one is from Tasmanian Tiger and is attached using MOLLE/PALS.

In the interplay between MOLLE and the "Modular Vehicle Panel," we noticed the following. Due to the 4mm thick metal, the MOLLE/PALS tab may become slightly too short. The Hypalon mount in the picture is also extremely tight. Typically, classic MOLLE tabs with the snap button have more play. These can be easily and securely attached to the "Modular Vehicle Panel" as usual. Thanks to the high friction of the Hypalon, the weapon holder from Tasmanian Tiger held very well and still does.

This is what the holder with quick-release looks like on the "Modular Vehicle Panel." Very sleek and functional, in our opinion.

Thanks to the headpiece, we were able to attach a first aid kit and a small fire extinguisher. The fire extinguisher came with a bracket that we could easily screw onto the "Modular Vehicle Panel." It holds securely.

CONCLUSION: The most stable mounting panel for the seat that we have seen so far. The workmanship is excellent, the installation on the seat is extremely quick and simple, and it holds securely. Quality made in Austria. When equipping, you can choose what you want to have on it. Thanks to countless holes for screws and the MOLLE/PALS grid, most MOLLE bags also fit on it, although it can be a bit tight with the flap.

The "Modular Vehicle Panel" is available directly from TRAND starting at 620 euros
